Following on from the major survey exhibition Tony Smibert: Tao Sublime, at Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) in Launceston Tasmania, ACAE Gallery is excited to present selected works from Tony’s Tasmanian studio.

Those interested can head on over to youtube to view QVMAG's Tao Sublime videos including, Watercolour Alchemy and Apprenticeship: Smibert and Turner. The final in the series is scheduled for the 22nd September.

Tony's survey exhibition Tao Sublime
the Art of Tony Smibert at Launceston’s Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) will close in early November. The exhibition has recently been refreshed with around 30 previously unseen watercolours and a very large 4 panel canvas (Winter Moon) commissioned since the show opened.

J.M.W. Turner’s circa 1826 watercolour Cattewater (from Allport Museum) is currently on display
as part of an extension of Tony’s exhibition at QVMAG, and shown throughout July in company with a collection of Tony's works inspired by Turner. We believe this may be the first time (or certainly a rare occasion when) a Turner has been on public exhibition in northern Tasmania.

Tony’s work Tao Sublime Creation: Rising Mist at Dawn is a finalist in the 2022 Glover Prize.
